Odorous House Ants

When crushed, these ants give off a strong odor of rotten coconut. This is how they got their name. Outside, these ants can be found in exposed dirt or soil, and under stacks of wood. Inside, these ants nest near sources of water and moisture in wall voids near hot water pipes, in heaters, beneath leaky fixtures, and inside termite-damaged wood.

Infestations can occur on the inside or outside of a structure. These ants like to eat sweets and are especially fond of honeydew. They are also known to move their nests every three months or so in response to rain.

Identification of an infestation of the Odorous House Ant infestation is similar to other ant infestations. It is important to look for trails in and around your home.
