Signs of a Oriental Cockroach Infestation

Identifying an Oriental Cockroach infestation may not be simple, but there are a few things you should look for.

Odor

Oriental Cockroaches secrete chemicals to communicate with other cockroaches. These chemicals have a notorious musty odor that can alert you to an infestation.

Eggs

Eggs and egg capsules will appear during an infestation. The egg capsules will be between 8 to 10 mm long and will be dark brown or reddish in color and can hold up to 16 eggs.

Sightings

During the warmer months of the year, oriental cockroaches can be found outside near gutters, landscaping beds, and traveling storm drains and sewers during the night. During the day, they can be found in moist, undisturbed areas.

Habits of Oriental Cockroach

Oriental cockroaches gain entry into your home by squeezing under doors and through gaps under your home’s siding as well as pipe, sewer, and drain holes within the structure.

Good sanitation, preventing moisture build-up, and sealing possible entry points are the best practices for preventing an infestation. Since these roaches are very dependent on water, eliminate standing water and divert water from downspouts, gutters, and splash blocks away from your home’s foundation.
